SUSCC Fall and Spring Tuition Waiver Opportunity

We are excited to share that SUSCC is offering a dual enrollment tuition waiver for one course this coming fall AND one course this coming spring!  If you are taking a course on Beulah’s campus, this is an excellent way to ensure the tuition is paid for upfront.  Families can also elect to take other courses directly through SUSCC.  This is a wonderful opportunity to earn college credit, but please remember that these are college-level courses and require a serious commitment.

Getting Started

To take advantage of this opportunity, please follow these steps:

  1. Apply to SUSCC and ensure you have been assigned an A-number before moving forward.

  2. Complete the "Dual Enrollment Agreement" form found here and submit it to Mr. Keel as soon as possible.

Choosing the Right Courses: Begin with the End in Mind

It is important to "begin with the end in mind" by researching a student's intended collegiate program of study after high school.  This helps ensure dual enrollment courses will apply toward a future major.  For example, a student interested in Social Work @ Troy University (Program of Study found here) requires PSY 2200.  Since SUSCC offers PSY 200 (the equivalent), that would be a smart choice. You can review all course offerings by visiting the link found here.

Graduation Requirements & Limitations

Per the ALSDE, there are specific guidelines for how these courses count toward high school graduation.  For example:

  • English: Can only be used for English 11 or English 12 requirements.

  • Math: Can only be used as a fourth math requirement.

  • Science: Can only be used as a third or fourth science requirement.

Refer to the ALSDE-Approved Dual Enrollment Equivalency List found here to see these graduation requirements.  While 10th graders can participate, research is key to finding beneficial courses.

Registration Help

To assist with the process, Mr. Keel has developed a guide with screenshots and helpful links found here

  • Important Timeline: Once you submit your Dual Enrollment Agreement to Mr. Keel, please wait 2-4 business days before attempting to register through the student portal.

Troy University: An Additional DE Option

We also have a good partnership with Troy University, which offers a $33 per credit hour option for tuition.  Their dual enrollment website can be found here.  Their recommendations for course options can be found here with their course schedule to search for availability is located here.

For many questions, the college/university will be the best source of information, as they are the expert of their campus.  Other questions may be directed to Mr. Keel at keel.adam@lee.k12.al.us.  He will also be available for questions on Tuesday, July 28 as part of the back-to-school prep day.
